Social Anthropology
Anthropology; the study of humans and the exploration of the reality of societal life through differing cultural perspectives (hence the window of perspective above). Anthropology can use culture and understanding of difference to bring justice back to the social inequalities and misrepresentations of people where the ‘other’ no longer needs to exist. Ruth Benedict most eloquently details this fight for justice with these words, "the purpose of anthropology is to make the world safe for human differences".
The projects below discuss both social phenomena and challenges that society comes face to face with. I hope to reveal insight through writing, exposing the structures of humanity that have shaped our social world as we know it to be. The final project in this section is a real-life field study done using the anthropological methodology, ethnography. It includes three different parts: field notes, an interview transcript and a final reflection.
